Two awards were presented to Board Members of Boys & Girls Club of the Great Lakes Bay Region at the 2018 Michigan/Ohio Area Council Meeting & Youth of the Year Conference on Friday, March 24, 2018 . Award winners in several categories were selected from nominations by Boys & Girls Clubs from both neighboring states
And the Community Service Award goes to…..
Herb Spence of Spence Brothers!
Mr. Herb Spence, Board of Director and President/Owner of Spence Brothers joined our board and reached out to many business owners in the Saginaw community. With the uncertainty of school closures, Mr. Spence begin searching for an area to serve our youth. In June 2017 a partnership with the YMCA of Saginaw flourished with a combined $4.1 Million capital campaign. With Mr. Spence’s community involvement, we have secured $3.9 M in our joint efforts to date. With $1M for the Boys & Girls Clubs renovations to a building Mr. Spence secured from the City of Saginaw on a 50 year lease, we are now in the stages of renovation.
Through Spence Brothers lead staff, they have secured a local firm of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors to begin the process. The business connections through Spence Bothers will give us the best and or pro bono construction as we move forward.
