Robot Theater Camp for Girls

Appropriate for girls in fourth through sixth grade.
Cost is $20, due the first day of camp. T-shirt and daily snack provided.
Taught by Wendy Hoyle and Lisa Zimmerman, sixth grade instructors at Fancher Elementary.

Students will create and bring a story to life with a robot they build and animate using recycled materials. Campers will collaborate with their peers and present their makings at camp.

Drone Camp

(Select one of two sessions)

SESSION I: June 26 - 30? 9 a.m. to noon in the ET Building
Appropriate for students entering sixth through eighth grade in fall 2017.

SESSION II: Aug. 14 - 18 9 a.m. to noon in the ET Building
Appropriate for students entering fifth through seventh grade in fall 2017.

Cost is $20. A t-shirt and daily snacks provided.
Taught by Dr. Dru Wilson, CMU engineering faculty.

Students learn about the use of drones in the following contexts: commercially, as a sport or hobby and in research. Students will design and build a drone throughout the week and will learn to fly drones in a safe manner both indoors and out.

Camp Extension Available

This is only available for Session I of Drone Camp
An additional fee of $20 per week of camp, students may stay on campus, eat lunch in the dining commons, and take part in open make in EHS 134. While direct instruction will not be provided, students will be able to work on a variety of open-ended projects. Staff will chaperone the students for lunch and be available to answer questions and provide support. Registration for the afternoon is limited to 20 students. Select Camp Extension option when registering for this camp.

Engineering Sound

Appropriate for students entering sixth through eighth grade.
Cost is $20, t-shirt and daily snack provided.

Taught by Pete O’Neil, Ithaca Public Schools instructor.
Students will design and build their own musical instruments using found materials to find out how pitch, frequency and wavelength relate to sound. If time allows, students will design their own piece of music using their instrument and computer software.

Tinkering and Technology Camp

Appropriate for students entering fourth through seventh grade.
Cost is $20, t-shirt, daily snack and lunch on Friday included.

All students will rotate through the following camp options: 1.Learning about circuits in multiple contexts with a goal of repurposing electronics.
2.Making by Breaking:reverse engineering with the goal of understanding how common electronic products work and using the technology to make something new.
3.Engineering: students will be given a real-life problem and tasked with finding a solution to the problem using given supplies and the iterative engineering process.
4.Digital Engineering and Games: students will develop their own simple game and build their own controller.

Students pick one of the four camps listed above on Friday to finish a larger project. Experience the “making” process and enhance problem-solving skills.
*Please note that students might not leave with a finished product each day.

Bioscience Today

Appropriate for students entering seventh throug?h ninth grade in fall 2017.
Cost is $25, due the first day of camp.
Taught by Toby West, Ingham ISD high school instructor.

In this one-week camp students will engage with some of the most exciting explorations available in the field of Bioscience. Students will analyze forensic evidence to determine the cause of a crime, conduct experiments to determine the safe temperature of food preparation, and make biodiesel fuel. Students will leave unique experiences that will change the way they view food, fuel, and the world around them while learning to use sophisticated laboratory equipment.
